Robotic surgery, robot assisted laparoscopy, (closed surgery) is actually a kind of laparoscopy closed surgery. In other words, we, the doctors, perform the surgery with robotic arms that we send into the abdomen through small holes made in the abdominal wall, as in laparoscopy. In fact, robotic surgery is important for doctors, in laparoscopy (from closed surgery), doctors see the surgical field in two dimensions, in robotic-assisted laparoscopy they see a 3-dimensional surgical field.
The tools we use in robot-assisted laparoscopy can make any movements we want, such as our wrist. It is easier to suture with it than laparoscopy. We perform laparoscopy in closed surgery standing up position, while we perform robotic surgery while sitting down. As can be seen, robot-assisted laparoscopy is more comfortable for the doctor.
